Health Science & Nursing Scholarship
Health science professionals play a significant role in the holistic management of a patient’s healthcare needs.
Singapore faces the challenges of a fast growing ageing population and increasing demand for healthcare. By 2030, one in five residents or close to one million people in Singapore will be above the age of 65.
Given this scenario, there is a critical need for well-qualified health science professionals to meet this demand.
The Ministry of Health (MOH), National University Health System (NUHS), National Healthcare Group (NHG), Singapore Health Services (SHS), Alexandra Health (AH), Jurong Health Services (JHS) and Eastern Health Alliance (EH Alliance) are currently offering scholarships to GCE 'A' level and Polytechnic Diploma students with excellent results to pursue health science courses in polytechnics or universities.

Area of Study
 Diagnostic RadiographyDiagnostic radiographers specialise in delivering high quality imaging services that aid in the diagnosis of illnesses and injuries. |
 DieteticsDietitians assess and prescribe appropriate dietary treatment and nutrition care plans that cater to the needs of the individual patient. |
 Medical Social WorkMedical social workers provide psychosocial assessment and support to patients and their families. They also develop discharge plans for patients that meet their post-hospitalisation needs and help them cope with financial, social, emotional and health issues. |
 NursingNurses provide care, rehabilitate the injured and implement health promotion activities to facilitate patients in their recovery. Nurses can also specialise in research, clinical nursing and education. |
 Occupational TherapyOccupational therapists design and implement activities to ensure maximum recovery and achieve optimal independence for patients who are physically impaired or who have lost their ability to perform daily tasks. |
 OrthopticsOrthoptists assess and treat patients, generally young children with binocular vision and those who suffer from defective eye movement and coordination. |
 PharmacyPharmacists dispense and counsel patients on their medications, manage the procurement of drugs and provide advice on the uses and effects of different drugs. |
 PhysiotherapyPhysiotherapists administer treatment to reduce pain, improve movement and restore function to patients with physical injuries due to age or disease. |
 PodiatryPodiatrists diagnose and treat conditions of the feet and lower limbs such as bone and joint disorders as well as heel and arch ailments. |
Prosthetics & OrthoticsProsthetists and Orthotists provide care for patients who require artificial limbs (prostheses) or corrective and supportive devices (orthoses) to enhance their quality of life. |
 Radiation TherapyRadiation therapists use state-of-art computerised radiation equipment to administer the prescribed radiation dosage accurately on cancer patients. |
 Respiratory TherapyRespiratory therapists evaluate and treat patients with deficiencies and abnormalities in the cardio pulmonary system. |
 Speech TherapySpeech therapists diagnose and provide treatments for patients suffering from voice problems, cognition or swallowing disorders arising from stroke, brain injury and degenerative disorders. |

Types of Scholarship
Local
Pursue a degree course at a local university.
Local - 3+1
Pursue a 3-year diploma programme at a local polytechnic followed by a 1-year degree conversion course at an overseas university.
Overseas
Pursue a degree course at reputable universities in Australia, UK or USA.

Place of Study
Scholarship recipients should pursue their undergraduate studies at local or overseas institutions that offer relevant programmes.
The awards offered remain conditional until the students receive confirmed places with the universities.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants are expected to meet the following criteria:
Be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
Possess excellent GCE 'A' level results or its equivalent
Possess good co-curricular activity (CCA) records

Bond Duration
Upon graduation, scholarship recipients will be bonded for periods that vary with the duration and country of their studies.

Career Opportunities
Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to work at the Ministry of Health, MOH Holdings, restructured hospitals, national specialty centres and research institutions.

Attachment Opportunities
Scholarship recipients will also be given internship opportunities within the public healthcare sector before their studies and during vacations. This will expose them to the various healthcare settings in preparation for their career ahead.
Application
Interested applicants may apply through www.brightsparks.com.sg upon release of the ‘A’ level results in March 2012.
Applications will close 10 days after the release of the 'A' level results.
All Health Science and Nursing Scholarship applications will be forwarded to MOH Holdings to be processed. These include students applying through National University Health System, National Healthcare Group, Singapore Health Services, Alexandra Health, Jurong Health Services and Eastern Health Alliance.
