The Government has accepted the recommendations of the National Mental Health Working Group (NMHWG) and is injecting another $35m over the next 3 years to support efforts aimed at raising the mental emotional resilience and wellbeing of Singaporeans. This commitment, on top of the $88m announced earlier, will give further impetus to synergise efforts to improve mental well being in the community. These additional funds will go towards customised education programmes for children, adults and the elderly. Singaporeans can also benefit from more ready access to support and professional help, as community partners will be trained to identify and support potential mental health problems. (15 January 2009).
National University Heart Centre, Singapore will synergize clinical care, research and education - To meet the growing need for expert care to look after the increasing number of people suffering from heart diseases here, the National University Health System (NUHS) is setting up the National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS). The NUHCS will bring together cardiac specialists and experts from a multitude of medical disciplines to provide a comprehensive and holistic approach to the treatment of heart problems. (2 December 2008).
The Cancer Research Centre of Excellence (CRCE) will build new capacity for interdisciplinary, collaborative approaches to address the most challenging and significant research problems in cancer -- with focus on cancers that afflict Asian populations. It will also provide outstanding training for students and young investigators in multidisciplinary team environments, said CRCE Director Prof Daniel Tenen, at the Centre’s official opening (15 October 2008).
The Lien Foundation, Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore (Duke-NUS), the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) and Singapore Health Services (SingHealth), established the Lien Centre for Palliative Care in March 2008. The collaboration broadens the base of trained expertise in palliative care and research.
